When will the 5 gram cage be available again?
My top priority is to keep my customers satisfied. That is why I would like to give you some information on the advantages and disadvantages of the bottle cage versions:
I generally recommend the 8 or 9 gram version because of the additional protective layer. The 9 gram version also has a replaceable aluminium retention tab.
Thanks to this layer, the slightly heavier versions have:
- more grip on the arms, so the bottles are held more securely
- a smoother surface that protects the bottles from scratches
- a longer overall service life
The 5 gram version will be available again in the future and is perfectly suitable for road cycling.
However, I only recommend it to a limited extent for mountain bikes. Also, bottles should be no larger than 750 ml.
I am not sure which computer mount fits?
Please send us a short email to info [at] carbonworks.de with a picture of your stem on which the screws are clearly visible.
How can I determine the screw size on my stem?
Option 1:
Remove a screw and measure the thread diameter
M4 approx. 3.9 mm
M5 approx. 4.8 mm
M6 approx. 5.8 mm
Option 2
Check the wrench size.
M4 usually Torx T20
M5 usually H4.0, 4 mm hex key
M6 usually H5.0, 5 mm hex key
What do I need to consider when switching computers, e.g. from Garmin to Wahoo?
The adapters are usually also called inserts and generally have two holes for mounting with two M3 countersunk screws. On Garmin inserts, the screws are usually arranged one behind the other in the direction of travel. The distance from screw centre to screw centre is usually 20 mm; occasionally there are also inserts with 22 mm on the market.
All our computer mounts allow Garmin inserts to be fitted.
Sigma also uses the same inserts as Garmin.
On Wahoo inserts, the screws are arranged crosswise, i.e. side by side when viewed in the direction of travel.
For our angle-adjustable versions, we offer an additional adapter plate for mounting Wahoo inserts. The same applies to Polar.
When switching from Wahoo to Garmin, you only need to remove the Wahoo insert and the adapter plate.
Many of our computer mounts (mostly those that are not angle-adjustable) have four threaded holes, two one behind the other (Garmin etc.) and two side by side (Wahoo etc.).
CarbonWorks does not make its own inserts. We particularly recommend K-Edge inserts for Garmin. They are easy to get and very sturdy.
If you also need the adapter plate to switch to Wahoo, you can order a complete conversion kit including screws, adapter plate and Wahoo insert as a service option for 10 euros in our web shop.
Which computer mount fits the Extralite and Darimo IX2/4AL stems?
Lightweight aluminium stems such as the Extralite or the Darimo IX2AL unfortunately have very thin M4 screws, for which we do not offer a mount attached directly to the screws for safety reasons.
However, Darimo also offers its stem in a reinforced version with M5 screws. The MasterMount fits that one.
Which computer mount fits the Garmin Edge 1050?
Because of its shape, the Garmin Edge 1050 needs a particularly long computer mount. Standard mounts may therefore be too short.
That is why we have an extra long version of the MasterMount. You can select it in the web shop. If you already own a MasterMount in the normal length, you can order a set of longer tubes for 20 euros. Simply select the service option (the last product in the web shop) twice and leave a short note at checkout.
The Integral Mount Multifunctional usually fits as well, thanks to its variable length adjustment.
Alternatively, the longer THM Frontale mount can be used for integrated handlebar-stem combinations that have two threads one behind the other on the underside.
Do I need a safety tether for my computer?
In principle this is not necessary, but we recommend it especially for heavy and expensive computers. Even though most of our computer mounts have never broken, the small round adapter/insert onto which the computer is twisted is a relatively weak part that can break.
Manufacturers such as Garmin designed these inserts to be weaker than the counterpart on the underside of the computer, so that they fail first.
Even though breakages are very rare, this connection is the biggest weak point under extreme loads such as potholes. That is why a tether around the handlebar is definitely a good idea.
How can I use the crash replacement service?
Don’t worry if a product is damaged, for example in a crash. Simply send us a short email with the following:
1. A picture showing the complete product and a close-up of the damage.
2. The suspected or known cause of the damage.
3. A copy of the invoice or your name and address
We will then always find a solution.
Are there discounts or similar promotions?
All customers should receive a high-quality product with excellent customer support at the same price. That is why there are no discount promotions or similar.
